Going for Gold

Have you ever heard of a philosophy called Olympism? Set forth by the Olympic governing body, olympism is a “philosophy of life, exalting and combining in a balanced whole the qualities of body, will and mind. Blending sport with culture and education, Olympism seeks to create a way of life based on the joy found in effort, the educational value of good example and respect for universal fundamental ethical principles.”

There are three values that you can see clearly demonstrated by competitors at the Olympic Games based on this philosophy:

  1. Striving for excellence
  2. Demonstrating respect
  3. Celebrating competition

The world comes together to compete against each other, to give it our all, to pit our best against another’s best and strive to win. Then when the flame is extinguished, the records are set and the friendships are cemented, we head home to start the hard work of preparing to compete again.

Similarly, as global entrepreneurs, we must possess the values that sports encourage; teamwork, perseverance, dedication and compassion. While we celebrate the Olympics just once every two years, we work every day to keep these values alive. With Forever, it’s not only about qualifying for Eagle Manager or receiving a Chairman’s Bonus check. It’s about the journey to becoming who we are as Forever Business Owners and improving the lives of people around the world. We forge friendships, strive for excellence and most certainly, we demonstrate respect and care for the company, the products and our fellow FBOs through our actions and support.

Being an Olympic athlete may never have been on my list of achievements, but being a Forever Business Owner is. I’m proud of that because I know FBOs around the world foster the same principles I do. Just like the athletes we look up to, we train every day for the events that affect our businesses and our lives. We learn through failure, take joy in the hard work it takes to get to the top and seek recognition when we know we’ve gotten the gold. Your gold medal is something you can wear everywhere you go, a smile and your Forever pin.

Forever Yours,

Rex Maughan
